This ride celebrates and honours the courage of the Australian Light Horsemen and by the time it reaches Tallangatta, it will have covered more than 750 kilometres.
The ride is named after General Sir Harry Chauvel, who was the legendary leader of the Australian Light Horseman during WW1, and the significance of the 16th of April is that it is the 160th anniversary of the birth of General Sir Harry Chauvel
During the ride, many historical sites which have a connection to the WW1 Light Horsemen, will be visited, including one of the newest memorials which is the “Sandy the Warhorse Statue” at Tallangatta itself. For those that don’t know, Sandy(who was bred at Old Tallangatta), was the only warhorse to return to Australia after WW1.
The ride will finish at the Tallangatta Expo, arriving at approximately 1pm, which presents a prime opportunity for visitors to pay tribute to the Australian Light Horseman and perhaps donate to the cause which will contribute to the preservation of the legacy of the Australian Light Horsemen. So, mark the date, Wednesday April 16th, and remember visitor entry is absolutely free.
